Design Inspiration

As it’s the Easter Holidays, and the boys are off school then I am a bit all over the place with timings.

The blog this week is a bit late – partly due to catching up with an urgent job the last couple of days and partly true to writers block. . . .

. . . then last night I ended up working very late into the early hours . . . . fueled by a great amount of creative  design inspiration on a new website design . . . . .

. . . . and although I woke up feeling quite tired . . . .

. . . . (but thankfully due to the aforementioned school holidays, was able to go back to bed for a hour ,after doing husbands pack up for his working day). . . .

. . . .I was also imensley excited by the inspiration that had come to me of what I could blog about.

. . . as often is the case, and what makes this blog so real, is that it is written by me, with “writing” design inspiration from real situations and conversations. . . .

and design inspiration is exactly what I want to tell you about today.

Design inspiration briefing

I had the usual briefing chat with my newest web customer to obviously get an idea about what kind of thing she wanted . . . .

. . . and flatteringly for me, she was extremely complementary about how much she loved this website . . . .

. . . . and how it had made her just want to click through and get in touch with me . . .
. . .excellent feedback for me then.

However, after I had made various notes to get an understanding of her business, she had given me some general insights into her ideas . . .

. . . but

. . . when I pressed further for specifics she was reluctant to tell me . . .

. . . ” I don’t really want to tell you too much so that I don’t influence the design, and restrict your ideas” . . .

and that in the nicest possible way is where she was mistaken.

. . . . she continued along the lines of . . . ” I am sure you have forgotten more than I will ever know about design”

While that statement may be true about design . . . . this website is about her business . . . .
. . . and of course that is where that statement is turned on it’s head.

Wild Ideas graphic design does not have a drawer full of designs . . . that I can just pick out the one that suits you . . . .

. . and while there are design resources for those designers who are happy to copy something done before . . . that feels like cheating to me.

. . .the wild ideas original graphic design ethos is to be unique and original . . . a tailored design just for you.

So people . . . . in order to achieve that . . . I need design inspiration . . . . something to spark the creative juices. . . .

Something to create that lightbulb moment.

. . .  and to acquire my design inspiration I need you. . . the expert in your business . . .  to supply little snippets of information or the odd picture . . . .

. . . things that may seem really unimportant to you  . . . some chance remark about what you do . . . what your favourite colour is . . .  what a client said to you last week . . .

. . . could suddenly provide that first spark of imagination that sets me off on a snowball of creativity . . . that just keeps giving . . . .

. . . and keeps me working till 2.30am!

It’s sometimes a bit like word association . . . . or a chance visit to your facebook page . . . where I spot that perfect photo . . . . .

. . . when you are inside your own business and so familiar with it . . . what I do is bring new untarnished eyes. . .

. . . I try to be your client . . and my design inspiration comes from the things you say that get me excited . . .

. . . things that make me think . . . “wow yes that’s the kind of (insert your business) I am looking for”

This lady also was keen for her site to have improved keywords to get her started on achieving good google ranking . . .so I have enlisted the assistance of Gayle Edwards – GE Copywriter

. . . and guess what . . . copywriters need design inspiration too . . .

So next time you are asking someone to create something for you . . . don’t be afraid or embarrassed to put your twopence in . . .

. . . you are important . . . the project is about you . . . give your designer some design inspiration.

until next week – Thanks for reading
Linda
