As a woman it’s kind of nice to think that there is an international women’s day to recognise how special we women are, however . . . . .
. . . . considering the fact that this just leaves men as our opposite . . . . it’s also kind of a shame that there was any necessity to create an international women’s day at all.
International women’s day has been around for 107 years. . . . as a way to highlight the plight of women . . . and focus campaigns to improve the quality of life and equality of women in society.
The fact that women are STILL not equal across a male dominated society it shameful.
. . . . that they have to have an international women’s day to try and promote their achievements / expose their plights and fight for their right (to party)
If men were not so sexist and had not looked down on “the little woman” as being insignificant . . . . or incompetent . . .
. . . . as a creature they could mis-treat . . . ignore . . . patronise . . .(add your own male prejudiced experience here).
. . . . Maybe there would be no need for an international women’s day. . . . but then . . .
the obvious thought popped into my head . . . Continue reading

Q. . Have you done the DIY branding just to get you going and realise the next step on your business growth journey is a professional revamp? . . . .
A. . business growth means . . . working with a competent and capable designer to create cohesive branding that works across the whole spectrum of your marketing.
What is tomorrow? . . . Wednesday? . . . yes . . . October 21st. . . yes . . . 2015. . . .
Oh but its so much more than that. . . because exactly 30 years ago tomorrow a young man called Marty McFly travelled 30 years in order to sort out the terrible mess his kids were making with their lives.
Tomorrow is “Back to the future day” . . . I pricked my ears up when I first heard that because the back to he future series are my favourite films of all time. . .
. . . and in my opinion. . . The back to the future series are still one of the best series of films ever! – even my husband likes watching them and he’s not really a sci-fi fan. . . . and my boys enjoy them too.
Seems plenty of people agree with me too . . as this text from wikepedia proves:
June 2008 the American Film Institute’s special AFI’s 10 Top 10 designated the film as the 10th-best film in the science fiction genre. Continue reading
I had a conversation with my account handler at Yell this week . . . .
A three and a half hour conversation!
Other than me choosing to reactivate my “Graphic Design Lichfield” advert with them. . .
(after it had generated some graphic design business branding work, 2 weeks before its recent expiry, thus causing me to have second thoughts about my earlier decision to not renew)
. . . I am not really sure what he wanted, as he never actually tried to sell me anything directly.
He discussed my website, and ran it through the Yell “testing software” which pointed out a few things that he felt were not entirely up to scratch . . . (didn’t get intimidated)
. . . he did some screen sharing, and some google searches, and pondered over the fact of whether or not people were able to find me. . .
Well I just opened up a new browser window and got myself on page 1, second from the top.
So who else wants to be on page 1 of Google?
When My colleague Dennis at DBN web design told me about this website project, I was initially a little uninspired. . .
. . . Crown Green Bowls . . . not really my subject . . . for people in wheelchairs . . . even further from my subject . . .
But what makes my job so interesting is that while every single project is the same . . . . a website or a business card or a flyer . . .
Every single subject is so different, and therefore challenging, and interesting too.
And every single client is a different person, with their own unique personality and individual set of requirements and vision for their project.
And to help me along . . .
. . . . The British Wheelchair Bowls Association, did in fact already have a website, so I was able to look at that, and smile. . . .
I have done two business card jobs recently, both quite different. . . .
I met Anna, when we were both visitors of the Ladies connect networking group, held each month at the waterski centre in Cliff, near Tamworth.
As a Polish lady who also has a slight hearing difficulty, in a room full of English speaking women, she very bravely stood up and took her turn explaining her business venture. . . .
. . . . and passed me a referral, (after hearing mine) to assist with a logo and business card design for her new cleaning business.
However old we get and however many things we do, there are always, always so many more things we can learn, and so many more wonderful people out in this big vast world to connect with and learn from.
I recently attended a ladies networking group as a visitor on 3 occasions, and every single time, I met completely different and diverse people. . .
. . not just the regular members of the group . . . but moreso the chance connection with the other visitors who are passing through. . .
. . . brilliant, wonderful, clever people, who are epic and awesome at what they do, and you can learn / get help with your business from them . . .
Its always nice to be able to finally realise the design vision with the completion of a project. . . and then to tell the story of that journey in my blog . . . .
. . . . and today is one of those days when I have a story to tell.
Miss S, is an existing client of mine whom I originally created a branding and logo set for her holistic therapy and Ayurvedic massage business, based in Nottingham. Continue reading
I am rather a stubborn kind of person, in as much as I do always like to have my own way – oh YES!
But in support of my genuine argument of this attitude . . . .
1. YES I always do have a justifiable explanation of why I believe things should be done a certain way.
2. YES I am always willing to change in the face of other / better options, providing they convince me with their own justifiable reason too.
Now you may not all agree, and often my biggest adversary is my husband, who even after I explain my reasons, still struggles to grasp my version of things, never mind agreeing with them. . .
But that said, YES I WILL always HAVE a reason, and in case you were wondering, . . . . .
“because that is how I like it” doesn’t cut the mustard, as they say.
